The Oakland County Genealogical Society library collection is now located at the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society (ocphs.org) at 405 Cesar E Chavez Ave, Pontiac. The library is located in the Carriage House, behind the Pine Grove (Wisner) mansion.
Current hours of operation are by appointment only Tuesdays, Wednesdays and
Thursdays 11 AM to 4 PM. (masks may required)
Please call before you plan to visit: 248 338 6732.
There is ample free parking in front of the building, and the OCPHS volunteers welcome visitors.
Please be aware that although the building has an entrance ramp and is handicap-accessible, the OCGS library collection is located in the lower level, and requires the use of stairs.
Please contact OCGS Librarian Joanne Steckling, if you wish to make an appointment to meet there
with an OCGS volunteer who can assist in bringing materials to the main floor.
In addition, the OCPHS collection of historical materials on the main floor of the carriage house will be of great value to anyone researching Oakland County ancestors. For information about their collection, visit the webpage at OCPHS.org.
There is a $5 fee per day for non-members to use the library, and a $5 fee to take reference photos (of book pages, etc). The Oakland County Genealogical Society encourages their members to join Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society to avoid these fees, and to support this organization that is generously providing space for our library collection.
*Remember that it’s always a great idea to check the resources of the local public library in the area of
of your research. If you aren’t local, check the library website. The amount of information available online is
increasing exponentially as libraries digitize more and more of their resources. Happy Searching!
